Below: every published test price we track, what each one measures, which ones lead straight into a treatment program, and how to avoid paying for the same blood draw twice. All men's lab panels, with sources, are on our men's lab tests page.
Every option, priced
"At home" means a kit you use yourself or a visiting phlebotomist; "lab" means a draw at a partner lab such as Quest. Each price was read on the program's own page on October 31, 2026.
| Option | Price | What it covers | How the blood is drawn | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hone Health advanced lab test | $65 | Hormone and health biomarkers, then a physician consult | Partner lab, or a visit to your home where available | The first step into Hone's membership |
| Taurus Meds first lab | $49 | Testosterone test and physician review | Local lab | Only for its TRT program; no charge for treatment if you do not qualify |
| Rugiet initial labs | $79 | Bloodwork for its testosterone program | Lab | Credited to your first order if you are approved |
| Rex MD program start | $99 | Lab panel plus a video consultation | Lab | One-time; the monthly plan follows if prescribed |
| Maximus At-Home Testosterone Test | $99.99 | 10 testosterone-related markers | At-home kit, upper-arm device | No commitment to a treatment plan |
| DudeMeds men's core panel | $119 | 16 results incl. testosterone, estradiol, CBC and PSA | Arranged by its care team | Lab order; no visit required |
| Maximus Optimal Panel | $199.99 a year | Yearly broad panel | 2,000+ draw locations | A one-time Essential Panel is $99.99 |
| PeterMD Optimization Panel | $247 | 30+ biomarkers at Quest | Quest lab | Not available in AL, ID, NY or NJ |
| Rugiet Comprehensive Panel | $249 | Quest panel including PSA | Quest lab | Not available in HI, RI, NY or NJ |
The cheapest single test is not always the cheapest path. If you expect to start treatment, a program whose first-lab fee counts toward the first order, such as Rugiet, can cost less than a standalone kit followed by a program that orders its own labs anyway.
Should you test before TRT?
Yes, and not just once. The testosterone cypionate label tells prescribers to "confirm the diagnosis of hypogonadism by ensuring that serum testosterone concentrations have been measured in the morning on at least two separate days and that these serum testosterone concentrations are below the normal range" (DailyMed: Depo-Testosterone label). The Kyzatrex capsule label carries the same instruction (DailyMed: Kyzatrex label).
Two things follow. First, a single test that comes back low is a starting point, not a diagnosis. Second, a program that offers testosterone without asking for labs is skipping a step its own product label requires. Every program in our testosterone rankings asks for blood work before or with the first prescription.
Testing also tells you which treatment question you are asking. Enclomiphene and clomiphene work only if the brain-to-testes signal can be raised, so the clinician will often look at LH and FSH alongside testosterone. Our enclomiphene vs TRT guide explains the difference and the cost.
- FDA-approved and compounded
- No FDA warning letter found
- No state list published
What the cheaper tests leave out
A bare total testosterone number answers less than most men expect. The broader panels add markers a prescriber needs before and during treatment:
- Estradiol, LH and FSH. Maximus lists these on its kit page next to total and free testosterone; it says the kit "Measures the 10 key testosterone biomarkers" (Maximus lab tests).
- Blood count and PSA. DudeMeds describes its panel as "16 listed biomarkers/results across testosterone and binding proteins, estradiol, a CBC without differential, and total PSA" (DudeMeds price data).
- A clinician's read. Hone's lab test leads into a physician consult, and you can "go to a partner lab or we’ll send someone out to your place for free (if available in your area)" (Hone Health TRT page).
Tests that lead into a program
Some first-lab fees exist mainly to start treatment:
- Taurus Meds: "If your labs show healthy testosterone levels or a contraindication, you won't be prescribed TRT and you don't have to pay for it" (Taurus Meds).
- Rex MD: the opening purchase "includes a lab panel and a video consultation with a provider or nurse practitioner" (Rex MD Testosterone Program).
- Rugiet: step two of its process is to "Get the bloodwork your doctor needs to evaluate your testosterone levels and overall health" (Rugiet enclomiphene page).
That is fine if you want treatment. If you only want to know your number, a standalone kit avoids an intake built to sell a plan. Monthly testosterone prices, once you get there, are on our testosterone price page.
Questions
FAQ
How much does an at-home testosterone test cost?
Through the programs we track, from $65 for Hone Health's advanced lab test to $249 for Rugiet's full Quest panel. Maximus sells a 10-marker at-home kit, and DudeMeds a 16-result panel at $119. Prices were read on each program's own page on October 31, 2026.
Should you test testosterone before TRT?
Yes. Testosterone labels tell prescribers to confirm low levels with morning blood tests on at least two separate days before starting treatment. Every program we track asks for labs before or with the first prescription. A program that skips the test is skipping what the product label requires.
Can I order a low T test online without a doctor?
Through these programs, their own clinician orders the test, so you do not need your own doctor. Some panels are not sold in New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Hawaii, Alabama or Idaho, and each row above notes its limits. Results still need a clinician's reading before any treatment decision.
Is a finger-prick or at-home kit as good as a lab draw?
Kits and lab draws measure the same hormone, but the label instruction still applies: two morning results below the normal range. Maximus uses an upper-arm collection device rather than a finger prick. If a kit result is low, expect a prescriber to confirm it before prescribing.
Do TRT programs charge for the first lab?
Several do. Taurus Meds charges a one-time first lab fee, Rex MD bundles labs with a video consult, and Rugiet charges for initial labs but credits the fee if you are approved. Henry Meds and Brightmeds say labs are included in the monthly testosterone price.
What should a testosterone panel include?
At minimum total testosterone, and ideally free testosterone, estradiol, LH, FSH, a blood count and PSA, since prescribers watch those during treatment. Compare what each panel lists before choosing on price alone; the cheapest test may need repeating with a wider panel. Every lab panel these programs publish is on our [men's lab tests page](/mens-lab-tests), and every testosterone plan on our [testosterone price page](/cost/trt), ranked with the rest on [Best men's health programs](/best).
